If you run over to IGN.com today you’ll find all kinds of stories on the Playstation 4. But I’m gonna give my views on what I’ve read so far about it.
Overall it’s very social integrated, to some extent it looks like it has a built in social networking system. For me, this isn’t that big a deal. I’m not a social gamer at all, as you know. I like to just pick up a controller and go rather than dealing with other people. I know I’m in the minority and that’s fine. I just hope that, at least for me, the whole social aspect doesn’t make it too damn hard to just pick up the controller and play.
It’s got power. Footage I saw shows a marked improvement in graphics and sound. This isn’t much of a surprise and was totally expected. That’s why it’s a next gen console for Pete’s sake.
But, the biggest news I saw had to do with the used games issue. Based on this article it would appear that Playstation 4 is going to allow used games to be played. This alone is a major win for gamers. So for now the war on used games has been averted for the time being. I doubt the truce will last forever though, but for now the crisis is over.
On the whole, I’m impressed. I will say I doubt I’ll be grabbing one right when they come out (I’ll let one of the others here get it first and see how well it works). But, it will likely top my “to get” list. I’ve loved every Playstation I’ve owned, so the next XBox will have to come out very strong or with some feature I consider must have before I’ll change my opinion on that.
Anyway that’s enough from me. Hopefully one or both of the other two here will have something to say on this subject. I’m not a major gamer, so I figure their opinions will weigh more than mine on most things. My major thing was the used games.
So, until next time….
